Head of Collections: Dynamic urban university library in exciting, 
affordable city, seeks candidates with energy, creativity, flexibility, and 
strong commitment to collections and public service for the position of 
Head of Collections, University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC) University 
Libraries.  Position reports to the Assistant Director for Technical 
Services and Collections, evaluates and develops the library’s physical and 
virtual collections, supervises one staff person, and oversees the 
departmental liaison program.  Establishes and maintains effective 
communication with academic departments and works closely with the faculty 
to provide information resources in all formats in support of the teaching 
and research at UMKC.  Participates on Technical Services management team 
with Unit Heads to maintain high quality user-centered service.

Successful candidates will have an opportunity to participate in planning 
for a new expansion of the library and integrated learning center. 
Professional development encouraged, required for promotion in ranked, 
non-tenure track position.

         Minimum requirements:
*       ALA-accredited MLS
*       Minimum of 5 years of extensive, current experience with 
collection  development in an academic or research library.

*       Current experience with electronic library resources
*       Understanding of scholarly research environment and scholarly 
communications process
*       Strong public service commitment
*       Exceptional interpersonal, communication skills
*       Ability to work positively, productively with diverse 
constituencies in environment of rapid change
*       Evidence of mature judgment
*       Evidence of professional initiative
*       Potential to meet promotion requirements in non-tenure track 
appointment

                Preferred:
·       Additional graduate degree
                 Successful, current experience with:
·             Collection Development management
                       Scholarly Communications issues
·       Supervisory experience
                 Experience with collections budget
                 Experience with donor relations
