YOUTH LIBRARIAN & BIBLIOGRAPHER
GENERAL DESCRIPTION:
Administers Youth Collection of the Library, including supervising one
Library Assistant and student employee. Provides reference assistance and
research consultations within Collection. Provides library instruction to
students/faculty in group sessions. Participation on library committees and
in professional associations is expected, as is ongoing research,
scholarship, and/or creative work.
SPECIFIC DUTIES:
1. Oversees operations of the Youth Collection, to include provision of
reference and instructional services. Coordinates development,
implementation, and evaluation of policies and procedures. Plans and
evaluates services of the Collection; supervises and evaluates personnel.
2. Provides reference and research assistance to users of the Youth
Collection, both local and remote.
3. Develops, provides, and promotes library instruction and special content
presentations focusing on various aspects of children's and young adult
materials. Develops guides, bibliographies, and other instructional
materials related to Youth Collection resources in print, audio visual, and
electronic formats, as appropriate.
4. Promotes the use and understanding of library services and resources by
students and faculty in children's literature and reading through
instruction and other means.
5. Develops and maintains collection of children's and young adult
materials and an associated reference collection in various formats.
6. Serves as resource for schools and other educational agencies in the state.
7. Serves as subject bibliographer and liaison for reading, library
science, educational media/technology, and library professional materials.
8. Oversees continuing development of the Youth Collection web site.
9. Engages in research, scholarship, and creative work.
10. Participates in appropriate professional associations.
11. Serves on library, university, and association committees.

Head, Collection Management and Special Services Department
QUALIFICATIONS:
Required: ALA-accredited MLS or international equivalent earned by start
date; Bachelor's or graduate degree in education; demonstrated knowledge of
school curriculum, trends and issues in children's/youth literature;
coursework and/or experience in school library media studies; demonstrated
strong and effective written and oral communications skills; and
demonstrated effective interpersonal skills.
Preferred: Experience as a classroom teacher at K-8 level. Demonstrated
understanding of quality children and young adult literature and its place
in the school program. Second master's degree is preferred and is required
for tenure.
SALARY:
Minimum = $43,072 (Instructor); $49,484 (Assistant Professor). Salary and
rank commensurate with credentials and experience. Full-time, tenure-track
position. Comprehensive benefits including TIAA/CREF, health and dental
insurance. Minimum of 37 hour per week schedule which includes fall and
spring semesters and 8 weeks in the summer. Release time provided for those
pursuing second degree required for promotion and tenure.
ROD LIBRARY:
Rod Library has a collection of 961,807 bound volumes, 820,000 microforms,
569,000 documents, 41,400 maps, 20,000 sound and video recordings, and more
than 3,800 active periodical subscriptions in print and electronic formats.
Faculty and staff of 55 [FTE] assisted by 35 students [FTE]. Rod Library
has employed an Innovative Interfaces integrated system since 1989, and is
committed to use of the Internet and WWW in serving the interests of its

YOUTH COLLECTION:
The Youth Collection, developed in 1897 to support the teacher education
program, contains 23,510 volumes, primarily children's/young adult trade
books and related reference sources in print and electronic formats. The
primary focus of the Youth Collection is on recently published materials
representing many genres, curriculum areas, and audience grade levels.
Smaller collections of historical titles, books in other languages, volumes
in unusual formats, and children's periodicals are maintained. For further
