McMaster University Library is seeking a highly motivated, service-oriented
and experienced librarian for the position of e-Resources Librarian. This
is a full-time, continuing appointment, reporting to the Associate
University Librarian, Collections & Facilities. The E-Resources Librarian
is accountable for the acquisition and management of print and electronic
serials, as well as the integrated development and management of all
electronic resources, including e-books, in an evolving information
environment. The incumbent will be responsible for the expenditure of a
serials and electronic resources budget of approximately $4.6 million
(FY2006/07).

The incumbent will:
- manage the Serials and Electronic Resources areas of the Collections &
Facilities division
- provide leadership in identifying new electronic information resources;
- interact with consortia for the purchase of electronic resources and
arranges for the local acquisition of e-resources
- implement new approaches in acquiring and managing print serials and
electronic resources taking advantage of emerging technologies
- make effective use of the acquisitions and serials modules of the
integrated library system and of available e-resource management tools (ie.
SFX, Verde)
- maintain a current awareness of the academic publishing market and
environment, future trends and the needs of the scholarly community
- regularly provide reference service on the Research Help Desk
- participate as a Liaison Librarian.
The successful incumbent must have:
- an MLS, MLIS or equivalent
- Four (4) years of professional experience in an academic or research
library or an academic library consortium
- Two (2) or more years experience working with e-resource licensing and
management
- Knowledge of the technical issues involved in the network delivery of
electronic resources and with the legal and business issues involved in
acquisition, licensing and management of electronic resources
- Familiarity with Internet developments, electronic publishing and current
library technologies such as link resolving software; - Excellent written
and oral communication and negotiation skills
- Evidence of significant professional achievement at the local, provincial
or national levels;
- Experience in teaching or training.
Preference will be given to those candidates with:
- working knowledge of reference and public services operations
- excellent organizational and analytical skills
- understanding of standard business practices and good mathematical skills
- ability to function in a collaborative, service-oriented environment and
flexibility in adapting to change
- working knowledge of spreadsheet and other software to support the
management of usage and financial data.
This position is included in the McMaster University Faculty Association
(MUFA) for Librarians. The appointment will be made at Level 3 or 4. Salary
will be commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position
