Position: Head of Information Acquisition and Management

Duties And Responsibilities:
Responsible for managing information acquisition and management
operations including serials acquisition, metadata/cataloging,
electronic resources, and monographic acquisitions; manages all
aspects of the library's serials activities including the annual
subscription review, vendor subscription management performance,
selection/de-selection of serials, as well as serials acquisitions and
control; manages library acquisitions in all formats; supervises
metadata creation and cataloging; participates in collections
management work including the evaluation of resources and selection in
specified subject area; participates in Countway and Harvard
University Library committees. Manages statistics related to
production; manages usage statistics for print and electronic
resources. Mentors and facilitates the work of four full-time staff.
Required Education, Experience and Skills:
Basic qualifications: Masters degree in library and information
science from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent; 5+ years of
library experience, preferrably at department head or unit manager
level. Additional requirements: Operational and strategic knowledge of
two or more of the following areas: serials, electronic resources,
cataloging, or collections. Experience with national standards using
AACR2, MESH, NLM classification, LCSH, MARC21, OCLC, and other
emerging standards. Evidence of effective relationships with library
vendors. Experience with library management systems, Ex Libris' Aleph
preferred. Exceptional organizational, problem-solving, interpersonal,
oral and written communication skills. Understanding of continuing and
emerging issues related to online resources and scholarly
communications.
