ACQUISITIONS LIBRARIAN
The Gumberg Library at Duquesne University seeks applicants for appointment
of Acquisitions Librarian. Reporting to the Collection Management
Librarian, the Acquisitions Librarian will manage the acquisition of
resources in all formats, including print monographs and serials,
e-books/e-serials, databases and other formats as they evolve. This
individual will oversee ordering, receiving, licensing, vendor relations,
resource sharing permissions and data management.
The successful candidate will possess a Master of Library Science
(MLS/MLIS) degree from an ALA-accredited institution, have a minimum of 3
years professional experience in acquisitions/serials and financial
components of integrated library systems in an academic library,
demonstrated ability to manage personnel and library projects, superior
oral and written communications skills.
Preferred qualifications include: additional graduate degree; experience
working with vendors, including the legal and business issues of electronic
publishing and negotiating licenses and fees for electronic information
resources; knowledge of the domestic and foreign publishing industry and
trends and issues relating to acquisitions and serials, both in print and
electronic formats.
Some of the essential job duties will include the following: manage a $2+
million materials budget, including endowment funds; manage the renewal and
payment of electronic resources: track pricing, update title changes,
services and costs; supervise 2 support staff who order, receive, check-in
and pay for print, audiovisual and electronic resources; produce budget
projections for the University Librarian, as well as prepare statistical,
financial and evaluative reports upon request; assist in budget preparation
and monitoring; maintain 5 year expenditure reports by department/subject;
develop and maintain high level of expertise with the SIRSIDynix
Acquisitions module, actively collaborating with the Systems Librarian to
evaluate and implement software applications in support of acquisitions
applications; maintain effective vendor relations, negotiate contracts and
monitor new service opportunities; serve as a liaison to one or more
academic departments; serve on Library and University Committees; and
perform related duties as assigned.
