WANTED: OLD LIBRARY SCIENCE STUFF!

*[Respond to the sender, not to CDL.]*

Your library's circulation department isn't using punch-cards anymore,
and your periodicals department is
desperate for more space. So maybe you don't need those psychedelic
issues of LJ or American Libraries from the '60s and '70s.

But before you weed old library science materials from your shelves,
consider contacting members of ALA's Library History Round Table
(LHRT). LHRT is a group of scholars and practitioners who research the
history of libraries, readership, authorship, and other aspects of
"print culture." Because primary sources are scarce, we rely on old LS
periodicals to help document the history of the profession. Many LHRT
members would LOVE to have print copies or microfilm for personal
collections, or for nearby libraries that support MLS coursework. LHRT
members research a variety of topics and chronological periods, so
items from the earliest dates through the 1990s may be helpful. Most
researchers will gladly reimburse for postage, particularly if items
are "free to a good home."

So if you have old library science stuff, contact Bernadette A. Lear,
LHRT's Secretary-Treasurer (BAL19_at_psu.edu). Let her know the title,
holdings, etc., and she'll forward your message to LHRT's listserv
(lhrt_at_ala.org).

Thanks for preserving library history!

Bernadette :)
