Colleagues:
Apologies for the duplication as this query was also sent to ACRL's STS-L,
but I am sure there will be some important responses from this list that
will be very useful. I am interested in learning how libraries are
supporting academic programs in computer game development. I assume that
there is no problem in getting the proliferation of new book titles in this
area and the journals that support it. I have lots of interests:
* What is the extent to which you are obtaining computer games and
supporting them? How large a collection do you have?
* Do you have a collection policy for them - selection and
deselection? Please summarize or share if possible.
* About how much money do you have invested in computer games?
* Did faculty offer input about what games to buy?
* Do they circulate?
* Do you have on a server, in a separate media center, special
collection, archive, have as a collection that students load, etc?
* What about support on different platforms?
* Do you buy them via library acquisitions or via another purchasing
process?
* Do you maintain special machines? Any special equipment?
* What kind of game design software do you support?
* Are computer games available for students' recreation as well as for
academic purposes?
* Did you start your computer game collection as a pilot project? If
so, please describe the process as it was rolled out and matured.
* Do you offer special programs in your library to promote the
collection? Are there competitions? Please describe.
Please share your experience and I will be happy to summarize for the
listserv. Thank you very much for your input.
