The Zach S. Henderson Library invites nominations and applications for
the position of Collection Development and Assessment Librarian. Georgia
Southern University, a member institution of the University System of
Georgia, is the largest and most comprehensive center of higher
education in the southern half of Georgia. Georgia Southern University
is classified by the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching
as a Doctoral/Research institution. A residential university serving
16,425 students in Fall 2006, Georgia Southern's hallmark is a superior
undergraduate experience emphasizing academic distinction, excellent
teaching, and student success. Founded in 1906, the University offers
121 degree programs at the baccalaureate, master's and doctoral levels
through eight colleges. The 675-acre campus is located in Statesboro, a
community of approximately 30,000 residents, 50 miles northwest of
historic Savannah and 200 miles southeast of Atlanta.

Position Description:Reporting to the Head of Collection and Resource
Services, the Collection Development and Assessment Librarian provides
leadership for the development of general library collections; works
closely with library and campus faculty in collection analysis and
evaluation; oversees a liaison program to determine collection needs of
faculty and students; evaluates electronic and consortia purchases;
works collaboratively on resource sharing and consortial opportunities;
assists with initial product license negotiations; contributes to
library budgeting, planning, and decision making; and provides reference
assistance on a rotation basis. The position is a 12-month tenure-track
appointment, and the minimum starting salary is $40,000 for assistant
professor, $45,000 for associate professor.

Required Qualifications:

ALA-accredited or Georgia Board of Regents approved MLS/MLIS
For appointment at the assistant professor rank, one year experience in
budgeting, collection development, and/or acquisitions in an academic or
public library
For appointment at the associate professor rank, minimum of 4 years
successful professional experience in collection development or
acquisitions in an academic or public library
Demonstrated knowledge of major trends in scholarly communication
Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills
Demonstrated ability to effectively manage multiple projects and
priorities
Interest in and potential for meeting established promotion and tenure
criteria
Preferred Qualifications:

Experience working with electronic products and licenses
Experience providing effective reference assistance in an academic
library
Experience working with a diverse student body
Supervisory experience
For appointment at the associate professor rank: minimum of 5 years
successful professional experience in collection development or
acquisitions in an academic or public library; a record of innovation
and improvement in collection development and assessment; sustained
records of peer-reviewed presentations and/or publications, and of
professional service at state, regional, or national levels
Screening of applications begins February 15, 2007, and continues until
the position is filled. The position starting date is July 1, 2007.  A
complete application consists of a letter addressing the qualifications
cited above; an original essay of two or three paragraphs on the
applicant's approach to assessing library collections; a curriculum
vita; and the names, addresses, and telephone numbers of at least three
professional references, one of which must be a current or former
supervisor.  Other documentation may be requested.  Applications may be
