Dear colleague,

I am very pleased to announce the forthcoming opening of the 1st 
International Conference on Multidisciplinary Information Sciences and 
Technologies (InSciT2006) that will take place from 25-28th October 
2006 in Merida (Spain). I seize this opportunity to point out that 
last-minute participants are welcome.

More than 250 scientists of all over the world will be attending and 
presenting their papers at the conference. Participants are coming 
from Spain, France, The Netherlands, Brazil, United Kingdom, India, 
Japan, Iran, United States, Finland, Italy and so on up to 44 
different countries.

There are scheduled 160 oral presentations and 50 posters 
presentations, as well as 40 presentations within the virtual 
symposium for those unable to attend the conference.

It is also remarkable the confirmation of the lecture offered by 
ELSEVIER / SCOPUS, where Dr. Jaco J. Zijlstra will report on how the 
people at Elsevier-Scopus develop some techniques that they use in 
Science Evaluation in the speech entitled “Providing tools for author 
evaluation: a case study”.

CONFERENCE PROCEEDINGS BOOK
All accepted papers presented at InSciT2006 have been published as 
book chapters in the Conference Proceedings Book, edited by the Open 
Institute of Knowledge. This two volumes edition will be available 
during the conference both in hard copy and CD-ROM version.
Furthermore, every paper will be published in the Open Digital 
Library, currently being developed by the Open Institute of Knowledge, 
and made available to be read on-line so as to maximize its 
international visibility and impact.
The title of the publication is "Current Research in Information 
Sciences and Technologies. Multidisciplinary approaches to global 
information systems" and it has been published in two volumes of 644 
and 602 pages. In addition, a CD-ROM edition containing all the 
articles has also been edited and published, this edition has its own 
ISBN number.

A number of social events are planned by the Inscit2006 organisation 
to make delegates visit more pleasant and enjoyable and to let them 
meet their colleagues in a less formal atmosphere. We want to offer 
delegates the opportunity to discover "Extremadura" visiting some of 
the most beautiful places in Europe.
The social program activities are:
