The Boston College Libraries invite applications for a Senior Reference 
Librarian/Bibliographer for Biology, Geology and Math in the O'Neill 
Library. The University's commitment to the sciences is evidenced by the 
recent $85-million expansion to the Higgins Biology and Physics Center, and 
by its current strategic plan which emphasizes growth in the sciences

The Libraries seek an energetic, pro-active librarian to provide reference, 
instructional and collection development services for students, faculty, 
and researchers. Reference duties include: designing and implementing new 
reference, instruction, and outreach services; staffing the O'Neill Library 
reference desk; offering responsive and imaginative liaison and 
consultative services at the individual and departmental level; developing 
print and electronic instructional tools; participating in general library 
instruction sessions; Requires some night and weekend reference desk coverage.

Collection duties include identifying and selecting materials in all 
formats; assessing and managing the collection; keeping informed on new 
technological developments and library issues related to access and 
scholarly communications in the sciences; working with faculty and 
colleagues to identify emerging trends in scientific publishing and to 
realize opportunities offered by a rapidly changing electronic information 
environment.

Requirements:  Requirements:  an accredited MLS; undergraduate and/or 
graduate degree in the sciences (life sciences preferred);  3 - 5+ years of 
academic library experience, including reference, instruction, and 
collections work; experience in developing working partnerships with 
academic departments and other campus communities; experience in developing 
and assessing collections; knowledge of the scholarly communication issues 
facing academic libraries and the sciences, in particular; understanding of 
the information needs of scientists. The Boston College Libraries are 
currently experimenting with new models of delivering services and building 
collections. The successful candidate will enjoy  and be effective at 
working in a discipline based collaborative work environment
