Health and Life Sciences Librarian


Wichita State University Libraries invites applications for the 
position of Health and Life Sciences Librarian.  Wichita State 
University, with an enrollment of over 14,000, is located in a 
thriving metropolitan area of 600,000, recently named one of 
Kiplinger’s 50 Smart Places to Live.  This position is part of the 
Reference and Instructional Services team, with subject liaison 
responsibilities for the College of Health Professions and the 
Departments of Biology and Chemistry.  Other responsibilities include 
collection development, research consultation, instruction, general 
and digital reference, and creation of web-based guides.

Required Qualifications: MLS from an ALA accredited program by start 
of employment.  Evidence of self-motivation, service orientation, and 
ability to work successfully in a collegial environment.  Knowledge of 
trends in academic library reference and instructional services. 
Knowledge of trends in scholarly research and publishing in the 
sciences or health professions.  Demonstrated potential for meeting 
the Library’s tenure and promotion requirements.  Excellent oral and 
written communication skills and interpersonal skills to work 
effectively with culturally diverse library users and colleagues. 
Eligible to work in the United States.

Preferred Qualifications:  Educational background or work-related 
experience in an academic area related to the assignment. Recent 
experience in an academic or specialized library in reference, 
collection development, and/or instruction. An additional graduate 
degree in an academic area related to the assignment.

Salary and benefits:  Starting minimum salary of $40,000 for 12-month 
contract; excellent professional development support, vacation and 
benefits, including TIAA-CREF.  Librarians are tenure-track appointees.
