An election for the 2006/07 Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect of the Collection
Development Librarians of Academic Libraries Discussion Group
(CDLALDG) will be held at the group's meeting on Saturday, June 24th,
1:30-3:30 in the Napoleon Ballroom B3 of the Sheraton New Orleans. The
nominees are listed below. [A reminder of the topics to be discussed
at the meeting follow the nominees' statements.]

Debbi A. Smith, Collection Development and Management Librarian
Swirbul Library, Adelphi University, Garden City, NY

Based on my interest in sharing ideas with colleagues and because of
my active participation in such groups, I would be honored to become
the Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect of the CDLALDG. I consistently attend
local, regional, and national professional conferences and workshops.
At ALA Midwinter 2005 I facilitated a budgeting discussion at the
CDLALDG meeting. This discussion highlighted some of the key issues
considered in the materials budget process. I am the head of the
Collection Development Discussion Group for ACRL/NY and created an
online discussion group for interested members.

My interests also include material fund coding, subject selector
training, approval plan considerations, written collection development
policies, electronic resources development, collection inventory,
collection assessment, preservation of collections, and material usage
statistics.

I am currently the Collection Development and Management Librarian for
the Adelphi University Libraries. I have previously served as a Senior
Reference Librarian at the New York Public Librarys Humanities and
Social Sciences Center, where I was subject bibliographer for
psychology and the book arts.

I have an M.S. in Library Science from Columbia University, as well as
an M.A. in History from Columbia and an M.B.A. from New York University.

Kevin Wade Merriman, Collection Management Librarian
Frazar Memorial Library, McNeese State University Library, Lake
Charles, LA

I have held the position of Head of Collection Management at the
Frazar Memorial Library at McNeese University since 2003, following a
position as a Reference Librarian at Mount Union College. My current
interest centers on expense analysis of acquisition and requestor
patterns. I was pleased to be a presenter at the 2006 international
SirsiDynix's Superconference and spoke on the topic: " You Reap What
You Sow: Planning Funds and Fund Levels for Flexible and Meaningful
Reports." I have also directed workshops and given presentations on
planning and using fund codes to quantitatively support other
initiatives, such as library liaison and related outreach programs.

I actively participate in ALA, ASIST, and both the state and national
level of ACRL. Im currently serving as the President of the
ACRL-Louisiana Chapter. The beginning of my term was devoted to
rebuilding membership and relationships with the Louisiana Library
Association and the end is devoted to hurricane impact recovery and
relief grants research. I also chair the statewide consortial LALINC
Research and Development committee and serve on the newly formed
LALINC Collections Committee.

As an avid believer of the role of professional-review in collection
development, I have published two book reviews in Reference and User
Services Quarterly and contributed to past editions of Gale's
Encyclopedia of World Biography.

I have an MA in Librarianship from the University of Sheffield and an
MBA from the University of Leeds.

Gwyneth Crowley, Coordinator of Collection Development
Social Science Libraries, Yale University, New Haven, CT

I would like to be considered for the position of
Vice-Chair/Chair-Elect of theCDLALDG. Duringthe past eleven years, I
have worked as reference librarian with departmental and reference
collection development responsibilities. Now, Im still wearing
multiple hats (as many of you are), as the Coordinator of Collection
Development for the Social Sciences at Yale University.

As I gain experience, I am increasingly aware of the difficulties that
we all face and choices we would like to avoid. I would like to lead
discussions and share what others and myself have to discover(ed),
ponder(ed) and discuss(ed). Examples are: What will our role be in the
future? Who will maintain approval plans? How we prove that time spent
is worth a quality collection? I would like to help us all by leading
and organizing lively and useful discussions.
