WHAT YOU'LL READ NEXT: THE BUZZ OF BOOKS
RUSA (Reference and User Services) President's Program
American Library Association Annual Meeting, New Orleans
1:30 - 3:30 Monday June 26, 2006
Hilton New Orleans Riverside; Napolean Ballroom
How do authors, editors, publishers, publicists, librarians, and
readers create a sensation? Who determines the next novel you'll drop
in your beach bag or the next biography everyone will give Uncle Ray?
Get the inside scoop on the book community from three perspectives:
a journalist who covers the book beat, a librarian with a passion for
connecting books and readers, and a bestselling author. RUSA
President Diane Zabel invites you to a lively discussion on the circle
of writing, publishing, and reading.
Speakers:
GAIL GODWIN, a three-time National Book Award nominee, has
published more than a dozen novels and short story collections. Her
most recent novel, Queen of the Underworld and the latest installment
of her journals, The Making of a Writer: Journals 1961-1963 (both
Random, 2005) address themes such as journalistic reporting and
writerly imagination. Ms. Godwin will be signing copies of both
Queen of the Underworld and Making of a Writer following the program.
SARA NELSON was appointed Editor-in-Chief at Publisher's Weekly in
January 2005. Prior to her current position, Ms. Nelson covered books
and publishing at the New York Post, New York Observer, Glamour, and
the Oxygen television network, among other venues. Her So Many Books,
So Little Time: A Year of Passionate Reading, (Putnam, 2003;
Berkeley paperback, 2004) chronicles her ambitious book-a-week
reading plan and reveals the engaging confessions of a confirmed
"readaholic."
