R. R. Bowker purchased Best Books in 2004. Best Books for Academic
Libraries was last published in 2003 and there are no plans to update the
publication. We are replacing Best Books for Academic Libraries with
Resources for College Libraries (RCL) – a joint publication between CHOICE
and Bowker which will be published in September 2006. Resources for
College Libraries is the successor to Books for College Libraries, 3rd
edition and will be continuously updated. There will be three product
formats: print, web, and as a core list to compare your holdings against
via Bowker’s Book Analysis System – the latter replaces the collection
analysis service which was available from Best Books.

More information on RCL – including the list of advisors and the selection
policy can be found at <http://www.rclweb.net/>www.rclweb.net. Feel free
to contact me if you have any other questions.

Is Best Books for Academic Libraries still available? Has it been updated
since its original publication?

I would be interested in communicating off-list with a library that has
used the collection analysis service available with this publication.
