Collections 2006: Collections, Communities, and the Future
Pre-Conference Session

9:00 am – 4:00 pm

Proposals for papers to be presented at Collections 2006 are still being 
accepted.  These can deal with almost any collections-related topic or 
topics and should result in a presentation of about 30 minutes in 
length.  Each presentation should feature one or two speakers.  Papers with 
broad applications or with applications to more than one library sector or 
community of users will be given preference.  Proposals will be reviewed by 
a committee of three collections librarians.  Six presentations will be 
selected.

The proceedings of this year’s pre-conference will be published.  Accepted 
papers will need to be ready for publication by July 17.

The deadline for submission of proposals is Monday, April 10, 2006.

The keynote speaker for Collections 2006 will be Katina Strauch who is the 
Head Librarian, Collection Development at the College of Charleston 
Libraries, Charleston, SC.  Katina has been involved in collections work 
for many years and is the founder of the Charleston Conference and the 
journal Against the Grain.  She is also the co-founder of the Charleston 
Company, which produces the publications The Charleston Report and The 
Charleston Advisor.  Her talk will be entitled “Quality, Quicksand, or 
Quagmire?: A Conversation About the Evolving Science of Collection 
Development”.

Registration fees (unchanged from 2005) for the pre-conference are:
    * CLA Collections Development and Management Interest Group  (CDMIG) 
Members: $80
    * CLA members: $100 (Non-members of CDMIG)
    * Non-CLA members: $125

Registration includes lunch (kindly sponsored by YBP Library Services) and 
two coffee breaks (AM break kindly sponsored by Midwest Library Services, 
PM break kindly sponsored by Coutts Library Services).  Registration also 
includes a short lunchtime tour of the exhibitions in the Library and 
Archives Canada building.

The registration deadline is April 17, 2006.
