Several members of this list have responded directly to me on this question.

I'm very grateful for this exchange and look forward to learning about more
practices and thoughts about purchasing various formats of scholarly books.
As I've noted to several of those who wrote to me directly, the issue of how
ebooks fit in the mix decision is also heavy on my mind as Chicago seeks to
develop a strategy for offering books in electronic formats.

I will summarize the responses in about 10 days and I'll be happy to share
them with this list.
