Greetings -
Thelma Diercks of Univ. of Hawaii posted this inquiry to a number of
us responsible for collection development.

I am the curator of the Pacific Collection at UH, and for my area
studies acquisitions:

I order hardcover whenever possible - our concern is
with getting copies that will last (and saving binding fees) although
we often purchase all editions of a particular author (as they
appear). I know that both our UH Hawaiian and UH Pacific collections
purchase any university press book published that concerns our areas,
and often order 2 or 3 copies (for our collections and for
the general collections of our library) depending upon topic.
