ASSOCIATE DIRECTOR FOR COLLECTIONS

The NCSU Libraries is seeking an Associate Director for Collections to
lead a dynamic, multifaceted collections program. The Associate
Director for Collections provides leadership for the development and
management of working and special collections, and the related
activities of acquiring, organizing, describing, and preserving
collections. The position directly supervises five department heads
(Collection Management; the Special Collections Research Center;
Acquisitions; Metadata and Cataloging; and Preservation), who in turn
supervise a total of 24 librarians and 44 technical and support staff.
The position is responsible for comprehensive management of a $9
million annual budget to purchase, license, and maintain collections
that meet the research, teaching, and learning needs of the North
Carolina State University community.
ALA-accredited MLS or equivalent advanced degree in library or
information science. The preferred candidate will be a library manager
with at least five years’ relevant professional experience, reflecting
innovative leadership and successful management of collections and
personnel. Substantive experience in budget projection and analysis.
Current knowledge of and experience with digital collection management
and access issues. Demonstrated deep knowledge of research library
collections and a sophisticated understanding of scholarly
communication issues and trends in publishing and information
technology. Substantial track record of effective engagement with
faculty and graduate students in the development of collections.
Exceptional communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
are required, as is the ability to work collaboratively. Strong
knowledge of the full range of library technical services functions is
preferred. Salary: competitive and commensurate with experience.
