VACANCY NOTICE
University at Albany

POSITION -  Bibliographer and Outreach Librarian for Education at the
Assistant or Senior Assistant level

RESPONSIBILITIES - The University at Albany Libraries is seeking an
enthusiastic, knowledgeable, creative librarian to serve as the
bibliographer and outreach librarian for the University's College of
Education. Other subject responsibilities will be assigned contingent on
the applicant's qualifications and institutional needs. Evaluates and
develops collections (all material formats), manages subject
acquisitions budgets, provides bibliographic instruction and research
consultation for faculty and students in assigned subject areas. Works
with library and teaching faculty to create programs and activities to
identify and address user needs. Develops, authors, and maintains
subject Web sites. Provides general reference services during assigned
hours, including some evenings and weekends.  Reports to Assistant
Director for Collections.  Research, publication and service to the
Libraries, University and profession are expected to satisfy criteria
for continuing appointment and promotion.  Finalists will be asked to
submit official transcripts and to present on a specific topic to all
library personnel.

QUALIFICATIONS - Required: Graduate degree in librarianship from an
ALA-accredited institution or foreign equivalent. A second advanced
degree, or combination of education and experience, in an
education-related field. Experience with library and office computer
applications. Demonstrated ability to author and manage Web pages.
Evidence of ability to interact collaboratively with teaching faculty
and library faculty and staff. Excellent oral and written 
communication skills. Strong commitment to public service, outreach 
and information literacy.  Applicants must address in their 
applications their abilities to work with a culturally diverse 
population.  Preferred:  Collection development or reference 
experience in an academic library setting.
