Please plan to attend the ALCTS Publisher - Vendor - Library Relations
Interest Group Open Forum in San Antonio:
Standardized License Expression : Clarity, Control and Fair Use
8 - 10 AM on Monday morning, January 23, 2006
Room 204B in the Henry B. Gonzales Convention Center
Some of the most difficult issues related to the management of electronic
resources revolve around licensing. To help ease the pain, many are calling
for a new set of industry standards to express license terms more clearly
and simply. While all segments of the library market have a stake in these
developments, their goals and requirements may sometimes seem to be in
conflict with one another. With an introduction by Tim Jewell (of ERMI
Group fame), libraries, publishers, and standards organizations will
describe various perspectives on what's needed, and how best to move
forward. Speakers include: Trisha Davis, Ohio State University; Alicia
Wise, Publishers Licensing Society, UK; Brian Green, EDitEUR; and Richard
Fyffe, University of Kansas.
PVLR hosts an open forum at each ALA Conference, summer and winter. Recent
topics have included:
* Publishers and Librarians Respond to the DLF/ERMI Report
* The Impact of ISBN-13 on Publishers, Vendors and Libraries
* When are eBooks THE Books?
* Here Today, Gone Tomorrow: Why Online Content Disappears
* A New Seal of Approval: Print and Electronic Approval Plans in the
21st Century
We conduct our business meeting every conference at 1:30 PM on Saturday
afternoon. To learn about how you might get involved with this important
