For those of you at state academic libraries, how do you
dispose of your discarded materials? Are you allowed to sell
them or use them in give-a-way bins? Thanks. --sj

Subject: RE: Fate of discard/withdrawn books
From: "Blake, Julie C. " <jcblake_at_stcloudstate.edu>
I asked that of our administration earlier this year. Here was the
official scoop, which I cut and pasted right into our Collection
Maintenance Plan.
"Withdrawn items may be donated to governmental entities or sold in
lots to anyone. In either case, the receivers should sign a waiver
indicating that they are receiving all materials as is, and St. Cloud
State University will be held harmless for any content in the
materials. Any funds received from the sale of withdrawn materials
will be used for the purchase of replacement library materials."

Hi Sharon,
Here at Nova, we do a bit of both depending on the type of material.
If we think it will sell, we'll place it in our book sale, but
obviously some items would not be good candidates for a book sale and
are otherwise discarded. (depending on age and subject of material)
hope this helps
:D
