The organization at which I work runs professional development courses for
K-12 teachers. Often our courses deal with the geography of a country or
of several countries. Currently, we have a few, scattered maps of the
world and China (which is one of our primary content areas). I have been
charged with the task of purchasing new maps for our library, which also
serves as a seminar space for these courses. I would like to purchase maps
that can be displayed, either on an easel so that they can flipped between,
a stand they can be affixed to, or a hanging mechanism so they can be
toggled between. I would like to begin with the purchase of physical maps
of the World, US, Asia, Africa and the Middle East, maps with no side bars
or added features that detract from the map itself (i.e. Population
information or flags of the world along the borders). In the future, I may
need to purchase individual country maps, particularly for East Asia.
So, my question: do people have suggestions for companies, catalogues, web
sites that I can use to search for affordable maps (not more than $300 per
map)? If you have a particular sales rep at the company to whom I can
speak, this would be great. Do any of these companies or web sites also
sell individual country maps? Also, any suggestions about how to display
maps would be very helpful. I think I'd like to avoid mounting something
to the wall, but if this is the best way to show 30+ participants a map,
and to swap back and forth between maps, I may have to consider it. I have
seen the Social Studies School Service catalogue and the Nystrom catalogue,
but if you think these are great options, I'd appreciate knowing that.
I have found this such an overwhelming task, that I thought I'd look for a
little coll dev help, so Thank You.
