The Georgetown University Library seeks an Assistant Librarian-Asian
Studies and Linguistics Bibliographer who, under the direction of the Head
of Collection Development, will serve as principal liaison to and develop
the collections for the following departments and programs of Georgetown
University: linguistics; Chinese language, literature, and history;
Japanese language, literature, and history; Korean language, literature,
and history; Asian Studies; Australia/New Zealand; and South Asian,
Southeast Asian languages literature, and history. The Librarian will
contribute to the development of cooperative collection development
programs with other libraries and library consortia, monitor vendor
approval plans, recommend annual allocation, and assist in the monitoring
of the library materials budget in the assigned areas of responsibility.
Minimum qualifications: Master’s in Library or Information Science from
ALA-accredited institution, plus second Master’s in a subject area related
to scope of position; or Ph.D. in subject area(s) related to scope of
position and related experience; minimum of five years experience working
with East Asian collections and collection development experience within an
academic and/or research library; knowledge of the history, politics,
economics, literatures and cultures of East Asia and Pacific
Region. Knowledge of the literature of linguistics is also
preferred. Must be fluent in Chinese and Japanese. A reading knowledge of
Korean is preferred. Demonstrated awareness of trends and developments in
the national and international publishing worlds, e.g., pricing trends and
scholarly communication, and ability to assess their impact on library
purchasing policies and services assessment. Must have the ability to work
with all personnel in a collaborative environment. Demonstrated record of
professional accomplishments and commitment to ongoing development.
Minimum starting salary $49,000.

Principal Social Sciences Bibliographer
The Georgetown University Library seeks an Principal Social Sciences
Bibliographer who, under the direction of the Head of Collection
Development, will serve as principal liaison to and develop the collections
for the following departments and programs of Georgetown
University: Government (including Political Economy and Social/Political
Thought programs); Communications, Culture, and Technology; International
Affairs/School of Foreign Service; National Security (including Justice
and Peace program); Public Policy (including Environmental Policy program);
and Anthropology/Archaeology. For these subject areas, the Bibliographer
will develop collections in line with the pedagogical needs of the
University, contribute to the development of cooperative collection
development programs with other libraries and library consortia, monitor
vendor approval plans, recommend annual allocations, and assist in the
monitoring of the library materials budget in the assigned areas of
responsibility.
Minimum qualifications: Master’s in Library or Information Science from
ALA-accredited institution, plus second Master’s in a subject area related
to scope of position; or Ph.D. in subject area(s) related to scope of
position and related experience. Minimum of five years experience working
with Government and/or Foreign Affairs collections and collection
development experience within an academic and/or research library. Must be
able to demonstrate, through study or experience a broad-based knowledge of
the literature of the subject areas within the scope of this position.
Working knowledge of at least two foreign languages is highly desirable.
Demonstrated awareness of trends and developments in the national and
international publishing worlds, e.g., pricing trends and scholarly
communication, and possess the ability to assess their impact on library
purchasing policies and services assessment. Ability to work with all
