Preconference Announcement (At Early-Bird Rates until May 20, 2005)

WRITING FOR PUBLICATION: DEMYSTIFYING THE PROCESS
Thursday, June 23, 2005 * 8:00 am 5:30 pm * Hyatt, Grand Ballroom F

Do you have a burning desire to write but aren’t sure how to begin?
Have you ever received a pink slip from an editor and wondered why?
Would you
like to know what editors look for in a manuscript? Do you have lots
of ideas but have difficulty in carving out the time to write? If you
answered “yes” to one or more of these questions, this preconference
is for you!

The morning session will show attendees how to develop an idea,
provide suggestions on finding time to write as part of a busy
schedule, and help attendees identify a suitable medium. In the
afternoon, attention will center on the details of constructing a
publishable piece and on understanding one’s rights as an author and
the workshop will conclude with an inspirational address.

Workshop faculty include experienced authors and a publisher: Janet
Swan Hill, Kathryn Carpenter, Patrick Hogan, Peggy Johnson, Pamela
Bluh and Sheila Intner.

Please join us as we reveal the secrets of successful writing and
provide valuable and constructive suggestions for producing a
publishable piece. Attendance is limited, to avoid disappointment,
reserve your place now!

Through the generous support of R. R. Bowker, EBSCO Subscription
Services, Haworth Press, Inc., Scarecrow Press, and Springer, lunch
will be included for those attendees registering for both sessions of
this preconference.

Each attendee will receive a copy of Patricia O’Conner’s entertaining,
light-hearted book “Woe is I: the Grammarphobe’s Guide to Better
English in Plain English” generously provided by Riverhead Books.
