George Washington University is pleased to announce the following open
position:
POSITION: Collection Development/Instruction and Reference Librarian
POSITION DESCRIPTION: The librarian in this position serves as a
member of the Collection Development Group to develop and manage print
and electronic collections for the social sciences, and serves as a
liaison to faculty. Subjects will include Psychology, Sociology, and
Anthropology; other subjects will be assigned based on library needs
and/or background. Also serves as a member of the Education and
Instruction Group, providing instruction in a variety of subject areas,
with an emphasis on information literacy. Partners with faculty
teaching University Writing 20. Also provides reference service in a
broad range of subject areas. Some evening and weekend hours
required. Serves as a member of Library and University committees.
Reports to the Collection Development Group Leader.
QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: ALA accredited MLS. Degree or substantial
course work in the social sciences or at least one year experience in
social science collection development and/or social science reference.
Demonstrates excellent teaching/presentation skills. Evidence of
understanding of key issues, trends, and ideas in instruction.
Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to work
effectively with co-workers in a collaborative team-based organization;
flexibility in adapting to change.
DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Familiarity with information resources for
the social sciences. Knowledge of collection development, information
literacy, and public service. Collection development, instruction, or
reference experience in an academic library; faculty liaison
experience; ability to develop lesson plans and instruction materials;
comfortable teaching in an electronic classroom.
APPOINTMENT RANK & SALARY: Appointment at the rank of Librarian I
(entry level: minimum salary $42,000) or Librarian II (minimum 2 years
experience: minimum salary $45,000). Rank and salary depend upon
qualifications and experience.
