CDL-Budgeting for Art Materials

I anticipate subdividing our budget for art books and media into two parts: 
one to support studio art (mostly works on technique and exhibit catalogs), 
and the other to support art history.

For anyone else who subdivides their art budget this way, or who has any 
ideas about how to go about it:

What proportion of your art budget do you devote to art history?
How did you arrive at your current proportions?

If you reply off-list, I'll summarize the responses if anyone else is 
interested.
