[original post followed by the response.]
We have been keeping a selection of our publisher catalogs shelved by
discipline for awhile now. At the same time we have been keeping track
of publisher web sites.
A reconfiguration of our workspace is being planned. So the inevitable
question: pitch or keep?

Subject: Publisher Catalogs
From: "Pakala, Jim" <Jim.Pakala_at_covenantseminary.edu>
Colleagues: About publisher catalogs, I'd add that (unlike website
catalogs) they can be routed, marked up by one or more faculty or
staff members, and handed to people in person and requested back
(making a more tangible event than urging someone to visit a website).
They also tend to be more uniform or at least more intuitive than the
array of websites, which some faculty may not want to fuss around
with, or may not do so very diligently and effectively. But I cannot
see the value in keeping such catalogs on hand. I view them as an
extra tool and nothing more (at least unless the publisher doesn't
have a website).
