Special Formats Cataloging Librarian
Randall Library, UNCW. The University of North Carolina at Wilmington
is a member institution of the University of North Carolina, and is
nationally recognized for its marine sciences teaching and research
programs, and for its strengths in arts and sciences, business,
education, and nursing. The University is situated on a beautiful
arboretum campus located in an historic
port city within five miles of the Atlantic Ocean. The University
currently enrolls approximately 11,500 students.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Performs original and complex copy cataloging in a wide range of
formats and subject areas, including print, audiovisual, online and
digital resources. Participates in the planning, development,
cataloging, and implementation of library digitization initiatives;
serves as editor of iLumina, a digital library of sharable
undergraduate teaching materials for chemistry, biology, physics,
mathematics, and computer science

which has been integrated into the library's catalog. Participates in
catalog maintenance, quality control and continuous improvement to
cataloging practices and procedures. Maintains the Technical Services
Dept. web page. Provides assistance to Library users at the
Reference Desk, including occasional weekend shifts. Participates
in collection development and serves on library and university
committees. Library faculty at UNCW engage in scholarship resulting
in publication, conference presentation, and other evidence of scholarly
efforts. Reports to the Associate University
Librarian for Technical and Collection Services.
QUALIFICATIONS:
MLS/MLIS degree from an ALA-accredited program. Extensive knowledge
of MARC21, AACR2, LCSH and LC classification, OCLC cataloging
products, OAI, Dublin Core, XML, EAD and other emerging metadata
standards and schemes. Must have excellent interpersonal, analytical,
oral, and written communication skills and a strong service
orientation. Must have proficiency in the use of both traditional
library materials and electronic information resources and the
ability to work effectively in a highly automated and rapidly
changing environment. Experience with web page design is also
required.
PREFERENCES:
Non-book cataloging experience in an academic library, including
use of OCLC and an integrated library system, preferably Innovative
Interfaces, Inc.
SALARY & BENEFITS: Salary $34,000 or commensurate with labor market
for this position. 11-month contract with faculty status (lecturer,
non-tenure track). Generous benefits package, including 22 days
of vacation.
