Position: Electronic Resources Coordinator, Serials and Electronic
Resources Department (S/ER)
Available: Immediately
Responsibilities: Manages Serials/Electronic Resources (S/ER) Section
of The Ohio State University Libraries (OSUL); develops and implements
priorities, work flows and procedures for selection, acquisition,
access or receipt, fund accounting, copy cataloging and problem
resolution for electronic resources, including online access to web
based products.
Participates actively as an S/ER management team member in
departmental planning, policy-making and operations; supervises two
staff members and student assistants and/or graduate assistants as
needed. Works with serials cataloging to apply national and local
cataloging standards and policies to section activities. Coordinates
the review and processing of license agreements. Monitors and
analyzes the operations of the section including monthly written and
statistical reports of activities and accomplishments, plans for
improving services and activities, and assessments of needed resources.
Works closely with collection managers to support their collection
development work and questions or problems related to acquisition,
funding, access, or cataloging of electronic resources. Keeps abreast
of acquisition and cataloging trends for electronic resources,
participates in national listservs, organizations and conferences;
evaluates the potential use of new services and technologies. Will
assist with future developments involving acquisition and processing
of new electronic formats, OhioLINK initiatives, and OSUL projects.
Reports to and may act in the place of the Head, Serials and
Electronic Resources Department. Serves on appropriate library,
university and professional committees.
This position has faculty status with accompanying university
expectations and requirements for tenure and promotion including
teaching, service, research, and publication.
Department: The Serials and Electronic Resources Department is
responsible for 25,000+ titles on subscription in print and electronic
format. The department consists of two librarians, 8.5 FTE staff and
6-8 student assistants. The department’s two sections - Serial
Acquisitions and Electronic Resources - handle all aspects of
acquiring, processing, copy cataloging, and records maintenance for
serials and all formats of electronic resources. The serials section
handles all continuations regardless of source, including gifts,
exchanges, standing orders, and depository programs. The electronic
resources section works with electronic publishers, aggregators,
library consortia and individual information providers to acquire,
lease, provide access or establish links to electronic resources via
the Libraries’ OPAC and through the Libraries’ web site. The
Department negotiates and manages licenses for the Libraries’
electronic resources.
Qualifications: Required: Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited
program or equivalent degree; minimum of 2 years academic library
experience with responsibility for selecting, acquiring and/or accessing
electronic resources; working knowledge of cataloging standards;
experience managing operations, solving complex problems, and
supervising staff; Demonstrated communication skills; ability to
interact with diverse teams and to effectively articulate abstract
ideas. Must be self directed, flexible and adaptable to change,
analytical and results oriented. Desired: Familiarity with serials
acquisitions; experience using III’s INNOPAC library system, in
particular the serials and electronic resources management modules;
experience with OhioLINK systems and services; familiarity with
national trends in electronic publishing.
Salary and Rank: Salary minimum $40,000 plus benefits. The position
has faculty status with rank based on experience and qualifications.

of library-related computer technology and is currently involved with
the development of the OSU Knowledge Bank, an institutional repository
for the intellectual output in digital format produced by University
personnel.
Ohio State participates in OhioLINK, a statewide library and
information network linking more than 80 academic libraries, both
public and private, plus the State Library of Ohio. OhioLINK includes
a shared central catalog and a statewide delivery network, as well as
a rich array of electronic databases, journals, and other resources in
digital format.
The Main Library building is also undergoing an eight-year renovation
project, which will provide a state-of-the-art, 21st century library;
completion of the project is scheduled for 2008. Additional
