The George Washington University announces a search for an Instruction and 
Collection Development Librarian

POSITION: Instruction and Collection Development Librarian

POSITION DESCRIPTION:

The librarian in this position serves as a member of the Education and 
Instruction Group to plan and implement an ambitious program of instruction 
in all subjects with an emphasis on core competencies and information 
literacy.  Participates in the development of the library component of the 
new University Writing Program, specifically partnering with faculty and 
providing instruction for students in the freshman component of the writing 
program.  Works closely with faculty to develop course-integrated 
instruction based on curricular needs.  Applies principles of assessment to 
instruction activities.  Responsible for collection development in the 
humanities in a variety of subjects (other than English and American 
literature) based on background and interest.  Also provides reference 
service in a broad range of subject areas.  Some evening/weekend hours 
required.  Serves as a member of library and university 
committees.  Reports to the Instruction Coordinator.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Two years teaching/instruction experience; 
excellent oral and written communication skills; demonstrates excellent 
teaching/presentation skills; a commitment to public service and to the 
promotion of information literacy; evidence of understanding of key issues, 
ideas, and trends in instruction; coursework and interest in the 
humanities; experience with electronic resources; ability to work 
effectively with co-workers in a collaborative team-based organization; 
flexibility in adapting to change; ALA accredited MLS with two years 
post-MLS experience.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICATIONS: Reference and instruction experience in an 
academic library environment; ability to develop lesson plans; experience 
in the preparation of instruction materials or tutorials; comfortable 
teaching in an electronic classroom; experience with collection development.

APPOINTMENT RANK AND SALARY: Appointment at the rank of either Librarian II 
(minimum 2 years experience; minimum salary $40,000) or Librarian III 
(minimum 7 years experience; minimum salary $45,600).  Rank and salary 
based on qualifications and experience.
