All,

Do any of your academic libraries receive a fixed percentage
of the university's research overhead receipts and if so
what is that approximate percentage? If you would like
to respond directly to me, I will summarize the data
for the list w/o reference to a particular institution.

Thanks,

We have just gotten this piece added to our materials budget as of
2002 and we now get 5% annually of the indirect costs sent to the
colleges. This has obviously been a budget boon, with the amount
generated running at about $400,000 yearly.
This arrangement was approved by the Deans' Council
unanimously, although there was some debate over the amount of the
percentage. As of this semester, however, we have a new university
president, who is suggesting that a lesser amount of the IDC will go
to the colleges and more kept at central university administration.
This would affect the amount from which our percentage draws.
We are a Carnegie I, land grant university, medium-size with
12,750 FTE and graduate enrollment at about 2500.
It is odd that this concept is so readily accepted by some
universities and completely dismissed by others.
