LIBRARIAN I – REFERENCE (English/theater, Digital Initiative Support):

Dynamic urban academic library seeks creative, energetic, flexible 
individual with strong public services commitment. Position has 
primary responsibility for assisting in preliminary efforts related to 
digital knowledge initiatives, such as developing institutional 
repository, and for English and theater library instruction, 
specialized reference, and collection development. Reports to Head of 
Reference Services for general reference and library instruction and 
to Assistant Director for Collection Development for collection 
development, digital knowledge initiatives, and faculty liaison 
responsibilities. Digital initiative work to include assisting in 
project planning, grant development, marketing and outreach, 
monitoring national trends and best practices. Some evenings, weekends 
required. Participates on team developing public service plans, 
policies, procedures that support the Libraries= service mission, and 
maximize effective operations. Professional development encouraged, 
required for promotion in ranked, non-tenure track position. UMKC is a

Minimum requirements: ALA accredited MLS; relevant humanities degree; 
current experience with creation or management of digital projects or 
resources; exceptional interpersonal, communication, planning, 
organizational skills; ability to work positively, productively with 
diverse constituencies in environment of rapid change; understanding 
of scholarly research environment; evidence of professional 
initiative, mature judgment; potential to meet promotion requirements 
in non-tenure track appointment.

Preferred: Advanced degree in English or theater; current teaching, 
reference experience; familiarity with major European language.

Salary: $35,000 minimum. Benefits include health/dental plans, 
educational fee discounts for self and dependents. No employee 
contribution required for fully funded defined benefit retirement 
program, life and disability insurance. UMKC is an EOI.
