Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer Science Librarian
The University of Arkansas seeks dynamic, innovative, and service-oriented
candidates for the position of Engineering, Mathematics, and Computer
Science Librarian to join the University Libraries’ rapidly expanding
collection management program. Responsible for pro-active collection
management, outreach to faculty and students, and initiating and conducting
course-related and resource-specific instruction in support of engineering,
mathematics, and computer science. Responsible for collection analysis, use
studies, development of innovative collection techniques, and building
collections in all formats in partnership with the faculty in these subject
areas. Other responsibilities are to develop innovative instruction
programs for undergraduate and graduate students, provide specialized
reference assistance and consultation, and oversee internship programs for
graduate students and undergraduate Honors students in these subject
areas. The librarian will participate as a member of the Sciences
Collections Team in managing existing collections and future growth of the
Libraries’ resources. Reports to the Director for Collection Management
Services and Systems for collections responsibilities.
Qualifications: Required: American Library Association (ALA) accredited
master’s degree; or a graduate degree in one of the subject areas mentioned
above with at least 3 years’ experience in an academic, special, or
research library; strong interpersonal skills to communicate effectively
with faculty, staff, and students; ability to work as a group or team
member; demonstrated in-depth knowledge of one or more of the disciplines
represented and of the research and publishing trends in these
fields. Preferred: Experience in instructional programs and in using
collection analysis methodologies.
Salary and faculty rank dependent on qualifications. Tenure-track,
twelve-month appointment. Benefits include TIAA/CREF and/or Fidelity, 22
days’ annual leave, tuition reduction, health and dental insurance.
