The Wayne State University Library System is searching for a dynamic,
experienced librarian to lead our Acquisitions Team in creating its
future
as a model, client-centered operation for procuring and making available
library materials in an environment of ubiquitous and ever-expanding
electronic resources. Reporting to the Director of Resource Services
this
individual will lead the Acquisitions Team in providing excellent
internal
and external customer care by creating a staff-supportive environment
encouraging learning and personal growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Manage, develop and effectively utilize the
acquisitions module of III’s Millennium integrated library system;
initiate,
oversee, and bring to successful conclusion all licensing agreements for
electronic resources; work with the Electronic Resources Librarian to
continuously improve management of electronic resources; oversee, track,
and
report on the status of the libraries’ $7 million annual materials
budget;
collaborate with colleagues and staff to ensure timely, efficient, and
cost-effective acquisition of and/or access to resources in all formats;
work with the library and campus business office partners to ensure
timely,
effective payment for library materials; develop and maintain excellent
relationships with vendors and publishers of library materials perform
service and research that actively supports the profession at national,
state, local, and University levels.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in Library and Information
Science
from an ALA accredited institution; excellent organizational,
interpersonal,
oral, and written communication skills; ability to think critically in
analyzing problems and developing resourceful solutions; demonstrated
ability to work in teams, set individual and group work priorities,
organize
tasks and meet deadlines; demonstrated excellence in leading, nurturing,
and
transforming an acquisitions or acquisitions-related operation in a
large
academic library or comparable organization; track record of developing
and
maintaining outstanding client-centered services and effective
relationships
with library materials vendors; thorough understanding of and
significant
experience dealing with continuing and emerging issues related to
scholarly
communication and electronic resources; demonstrated ability to analyze
and
interpret qualitative and quantitative data regarding library
collections
and performance of library operations; demonstrated proficiency in
utilizing
desktop tools to assist with this analysis; supervisory experience.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in utilizing / managing staff
applications of III’s Millennium integrated library system; demonstrated
knowledge of and experience using e-resource management tools (e.g.,
SerialsSolutions, SFX); working knowledge of one or more languages other
than English.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR LIBRARIAN II RANK: Master’s degree in Library and
Information Science from an ALA accredited institution. Demonstrated
ability
to carry out competently the range of professional library functions
pertaining to the primary assigned area of librarianship. The ability to
work well independently, to make sound decisions and to have
constructive/productive interactions with colleagues. Continuing record
of
professional achievement and service required.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR LIBRARIAN III RANK: Master’s degree in Library and
Information Science from an ALA accredited institution. Demonstrated
excellence in job performance. Established record of excellence in
professional achievement and service. Appointment at this level is based
on
the applicant's cumulative professional record rather than on any single
accomplishment. Must have achieved statewide and/or regional recognition
within the profession.

SALARY AND BENEFITS: Salary and rank: commensurate with education and
