Colldv-l Subscribers,
Please Read-
We all continue to be bombarded with spoofed messages
that appear to be from Lynn and me. These are not from
us and the messages usually contain virus attachments.
Delete any colldv-l message without 'CDL:' in the subject
line. Also, NO attachments are sent with colldv-l messages.
With 2300 readers, the colldv-l list apparently has
several readers whose computers have a virus of the type
that copies an address from their email address book and
then sends a message (with a virus attached) to another
person in the same address book.
Because the virus is working all day long and because
the infected persons apparently have both Lynn and/or my
and the colldv-l addresses in the book, through random chance
alone, this is generating emails appearing to be from
colldv-l to you.
The USC computer security office is on the case, but
the viruses stay ahead of them. Someone is also spoofing
that computer center with messages, so delete any message
from @usc.com. The listproc/listserv would never contact
you directly.
Cautions and remedies would be to 1) run a currently
updated virus protection program on your office *and*
home computer, 2) Go into your address book and
delete the colldv-l address and Lynn's and my address,
and 3) Delete any message from colldv-l that is even
vaguely suspicious.
Thanks,
John Abbott for colldv-l
