Position: Education Librarian
Miami University Libraries, Oxford, OH, are seeking an innovative,
self-motivated, service-oriented, and flexible team-player with a
can-do attitude and a strong education background for this Assistant
Librarian position. Reporting to the Coordinating Head of Special
Libraries, the Education Librarian supervises the Libraries'
Instructional Materials Center (IMC) and serves as liaison to the
Educational Leadership (EDL) and Teacher Education (EDT) programs in
Miami University's School of Education and Allied Professions (EAP).
The successful candidate will have an interest in and ability to
effectively provide an array of public services including reference,
collection development, and library instruction; will embrace an
environment of continual improvement; and will be comfortable with
change and working in an organization that seeks to stay close to the
edge of technology.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to: supervising one
classified staff member, who is the Manager of daily operations in the
IMC; developing and maintaining strong relationships with the School
of Education and Allied Professions (EAP); designing and presenting
instruction sessions to assist pre-service and in-service teachers in
the effective use of search techniques and professional materials;
providing reference services to students and faculty of EAP, both
in-house and electronically; developing the Libraries' collection for
education materials (LC classification 'L') and maintaining a K-12
curriculum materials collection comprised of juvenile books,
multimedia, and professional development resources; preparing
bibliographies and pathfinders as finding and research aids for the
collection; utilizing technologies appropriate for daily work tasks
and special projects; serving on the Special Libraries' Leadership
Council.
Requirements include a graduate library degree from an ALA accredited
institution; experience providing and promoting instruction and
reference services; strong commitment to public service and working
with diverse populations; working knowledge of electronic information
resources and delivery methods; demonstrated facility for applying
technology to library services; initiative and ability to conceive and
carry out projects; some evening and weekend work may be required.
Highly Desirable: undergraduate degree in education preferred and a
second master's degree in education is highly desirable; supervisory
skills; experience with curriculum materials.
Environment: Miami University is located in Oxford, OH, 35 miles
northwest of Cincinnati. The University Libraries have a strong
tradition of public service and of building collections that support
the university's education and research activities. Among the
Libraries' resources are 2.6 million volumes, an extensive collection
of government documents and microforms, and over 13,000 electronic
serials and 100+ online databases available via MiamiLINK, the library
web system. Miami Libraries serve approximately 850 teaching and
research faculty, 16,000 undergraduates and 1,000 graduate students.
The Libraries have 52 professionals, 53 support staff, belong to OCLC,
CRL, SPARC, and are active members of the OhioLINK consortium.
