Greetings good Colldv-l readers,
With 2300 subscribers it is not surprising a virus or trojan is
on a Windows computer amongst us. The Colldv-l server appears to be
secure, but someone(s) computer is spoofing the list and appearing to
be colldv-l. It appears to be the NetSky virus at work.
NetSky on the reader's computer is randomly sending emails out to
addresses in the address book and forging them so that they appear to
be coming from other random addresses from the same address book.
Colldv-l at usc is one of those addresses.
Bottom line, if you are puzzled by an email that appears to be from
Colldv-l, Lynn, or me, DELETE IT. If the email lacks the CDL:
prefix, it is certainly not from the list and as policy Colldv-l
sends NO attachments with messages.
If you haven't run updated virus prevention software recently, please
do so asap, because NetSky is amongst us. Talk to your IT people.
Be careful out there.

John Abbott for colldv-l
