Collection Development Librarian, Martin P. Catherwood Library, Cornell 
University

Cornell University's Catherwood Library of Industrial and Labor Relations 
invites applications for the position of Collection Development 
Librarian.  The person selected for this position will be responsible for 
guiding development of the foremost collection in North America of print 
(220,000 volumes) and electronic sources of information about issues in the 
workplace.

The Catherwood Library offers an array of information services to its 
primary user population of 800 undergraduate and graduate students and 
faculty as well as a university community of over 20,000.  Catherwood staff 
excel as leaders in the development of electronic products and services to 
meet the information needs of those who access the library from remote 
locations, including industrial relations and human resource 
practitioners.

).  The Library also houses the Kheel Center for Labor-Management 
Documentation and Archives, one of the major archival repositories of its 
type in the country.

Responsibilities:  Reporting to the Catherwood Director, the Collection 
Development Librarian is responsible for selecting and acquiring print and 
electronic information resources made available from the Catherwood 
Library.  Perspectives on acquisition and selection come from continuous 
review of published literature and databases in the field of industrial 
relations and human resources management.  Participation as a member of the 
reference staff will provide additional insights about the information 
needs of faculty, students, and non-Cornell users.  Identification and 
acquisition of the grey literature of the field is an important 
focus.  This person will coordinate Catherwood's liaison program with 
faculty, develop and maintain relationships with publishers and data 
providers, and negotiate and monitor licenses for specialized electronic 
resources provided by the library.  Also responsible for oversight of 
technical services functions at Catherwood as well as maintaining a liaison 
with other processing centers on campus and subcontractors such as OCLC.

Qualifications:  MLS or equivalent graduate degree.  Broad knowledge of the 
literature of the social sciences and a desire to develop substantial 
expertise with information resources in the industrial relations/human 
resources management field.  Strong communication, interpersonal, and 
presentation skills, and a commitment to professional growth and 
development.  Basic reading knowledge of at least one other language in 
addition to English.  Desired:  At least two years of professional library 
experience in an academic, research, or corporate library 
setting.  Supervisory experience.  Experience with computer and 
telecommunications technologies for information management.  Basic reading 
knowledge of Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Chinese, or Korean highly 
desirable.
