Instruction and Collection Development Librarian
SUNY Potsdam Libraries (http://www.potsdam.edu/library.html) seek an
innovative, energetic and service-oriented librarian to work in a team
environment. The successful candidate will demonstrate both interest and
competence in a range of skills that cross traditional technical/public
service boundaries and flexibility in adapting to the dynamic environment
of the academic library and higher education.
Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will initially have multiple responsibilities in
information literacy, collection development, and reference. As a member
of the Information Literacy Committee, s/he will, under the leadership of
the Information Literacy Coordinator, participate in planning, policy,
curriculum development, and assessment for information literacy and engage
in classroom teaching in an increasingly developmental information literacy
program that is integrated into the curriculum.
As a member of the Collection Development Committee led by the Collection
Development Coordinator, s/he will share responsibilities for managing the
collection through such activities as: updating the collection development
policies, working with departmental and library faculty to select and
de-select materials, assessing collections and collection management
policies and procedures.
In addition, all library faculty participate in providing assistance and
instruction at the reference desk, including some evening and weekend
hours. All library faculty participate in library governance activities and
are encouraged to become active on campus-wide committees.
Qualifications:
Required:
· ALA-accredited Masters degree in library or information science;
· Formal coursework in teaching or teaching experience;
· Effective oral and written communication skills;
· Leadership experience and potential;
· Strong analytical and organizational skills;
· Strong interpersonal skills;
· Affinity for new technologies.
Preferred:
· Experience or course work in collection development and management;
· Reference experience.
Salary and rank:
High 30s, Senior Assistant Librarian. This is a tenure-track, 12-month
academic faculty position. Criteria for continuing appointment (tenure),
established by the SUNY Board of Trustees, include: teaching effectiveness,
mastery of subject matter, continuing growth, university service, and
scholarly activity.
