Subject: Call for presenters: Collection Development Librarians of Academic
Libraries Discussion Group
As Chair of the CMDS Collection Development Librarians of Academic
Libraries Discussion Group, I am seeking individuals and groups who are
willing to make a presentation on some aspect of academic library
collection development. The Discussion Group will meet at ALA Midwinter in
San Diego on Saturday, January 10, 2004, from 2 to 4 pm (location yet to be
announced).
Some possible topics of current interest:
* Competencies for subject specialists in difficult to
master disciplines
* Cooperative work in consortia
* The "big deal" in times of financial stress
* Remote storage
* Selecting, managing, and evaluating electronic resources
ALCTS-CMDS Discussion Group provides an ideal interactive forum for the
presentation and discussion of a wide range of collection development
issues. If you and/or your colleagues have recently concluded a collection
development related study or research project, or have such a project
underway and would like to present your findings before an audience of
your collection development peers, please respond to me at the e-mail
address below. Your ideas don't necessarily have to be research
based--you may have figured out a new way to get things done or scored a
breakthrough and would like to share your success with your collection
development peers, or you may simply wish to lead a discussion on an area
that particularly interests you. I welcome any and all of your program
suggestions.
I look forward to hearing from you.
