[moderator's note: this is a little off the cd vein, but cd folk
are often senior and more aware of these issues, therefore it
is posted. Please respond directly to Selene. ja]

Greetings,
My academic library and my librarian colleagues are working with our
University's Faculty Senate and the University Administration
regarding "enhanced" academic status for the librarians. At this
moment we are under the umbrella of Information Technology (the
computer folk), and though we are currently considered staff, unlike
other staff at the University we do have a career ladder that includes
4 titles, Asst. Librarian, Assoc. Librarian, Librarian, and Senior
Librarian. We have not been able to find examples in academe that
detail "non-tenure, non-teaching faculty" status for librarians in
academic libraries. Are any of you out there, for personnel issues
considered FACULTY without TENURE? At the moment we have NO interest
in Tenure status and what that entails. We are in a position to lose
our career ladder if we seek Tenure status. Additionally don't want
to compete with Faculty for research dollars and time, and we have
librarians who do not teach.
Please respond to me directly, as I realize this is not a CD issue,
but it is the only list I belong to. I will be happy to summarize
for the list, if there is any interest.
Thanks,
Gloria Selene Hinojosa
