Collection Development Colleagues:

I am SURE I read a journal article (a long time ago...)
which suggested allocating purchase funds by SCHOOL (a bigger
chunk of the budget)--instead of by DEPARTMENT. I **believe** the
argument was that the Deans should fight the allocation battles at
their level--especially in light of the increasing amount of
interdisciplinary research and teaching. Traditional department
lines are less relevant??

Can anyone help, or does this vague description ring a bell with
anyone? All I need is a citation--if found, I will return it to
COLLDV-L. Thanks in advance for any help you can provide.
Sincerely,

You could be thinking of an article by Carol Cubberley, formerly of
the kUniversity of Southern Mississippi, now retired. As I recall, it
appeared in the Journal of Academic Librarianship after 1990.
Good luck.

Try searching Library Lit using "acquisition" AND "allocation" in the
keyword field. I found 42 records ranging in dates from 1984 to 2003.

and the David Genaway articles cited there.
