BIBLIOGRAPHER FOR ART AND CINEMA

The University of Chicago Library seeks candidates for the position of 
Bibliographer for Art and Cinema. Responsibilities include the 
following: develop and maintain collections in the areas of western 
art, architecture, and cinema, from the post-classical period to 
contemporary and for selecting some materials in nonvernacular 
languages for East Asian archeology, art and architectural history; 
provides specialized reference service and bibliographic instruction 
for faculty and students in art history and cinema as well as ten 
hours per week with the Reference and Business Information Center of 
Regenstein Library; participate in committee work at the divisional, 
interdivisional, and academic department levels and oversee the work 
of 1.25 FTE student assistants. The Librarys collection currently 
numbering some 120,000 print titles including rare book holdings, as 
well as microform and audiovisual formats and substantial and rapidly 
expanding electronic resources. The collections support the research 
and teaching programs of faculty and work of graduate students in the 
Department of Art History and the Committee on Cinema and Media 
Studies. The Library provides generous support for collection building 
including a strong commitment to electronic formats and to ongoing 
retrospective acquisition of out-of-print material as well as current 
imprints.  The Bibliographer enjoys opportunities to work 
collaboratively with faculty and students as well as with fellow 
bibliographers, the Reference and Business Information Center, the 
Department of Special Collections, and the Digital Library Development

The Bibliographer for Art and Cinema reports to the Assistant Director 
for Humanities and Social Sciences.  For a full description of

QUALIFICATIONS: Education: ALA accredited MLS or MLIS and graduate 
work in art history, or a Ph.D. in art history is required. 
Experience: Substantial work experience in a research library related 
to the field of art history required.  Evidence of extensive 
specialist bibliographic and reference work essential. Skills: 
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty, students and 
staff and possess excellent oral, written, and interpersonal 
communications skills.  High degree of computer literacy required and 
a demonstrated interest in the application of information technologies 
in the humanities is important. Languages: Reading knowledge of 
Western European languages relevant to the subject fields (German, 
French and/or Italian) required. SALARY AND BENEFITS: Appointment 
salary based on qualifications and experience.  Benefits include
