  Dear Colleagues -

I am chairing a task force which is petitioning the ALA Reference and
User Services Association (RUSA) to create a new resource sharing
section. The section would address all forms of resource sharing: ILL,
cooperative collection development, cooperative reference, remote
circulation, shared storage facilities, access services, etc. Our goal
is to get people from all areas of resource sharing in one central
location within ALA so that we can work on projects of mutual interest
and address resource sharing concerns in a broad-based manner.

If you support this idea, and you are a RUSA member, please sign the
petition which can be found at http://www.ala.org/rusa/ - click on
"Petition and Support Document for NEW Resource Sharing Section" -
then click on "New Section Petition". Print it, fill it out, and mail
it to me at the address on the bottom of the petition. Note: you MUST
be a member of RUSA to sign.

Please also note that the document labelec "Background for Creating
New RUSA Section" includes the title and purpose of the new section
(STARS - Section to Transform Access and Resource Sharing), our
rationale for its creation, and two tables outlining the proposed
committees and discussion groups as well as projects for them to work
on in their first 3 years.

We need 200 signatures from RUSA members and already have 178. If you
support this idea, please sign the petition and suggest to your RUSA
colleagues that they do the same.

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me directly at
hollerich_at_northwestern.edu.
