Job Title: Librarian Sr. - Technical Services
The Medical College of Wisconsin Libraries seek a librarian who will
manage the technical services operations (serials, cataloging,
interlibrary loan, acquisitions). The Medical College of Wisconsin
Libraries - one main library and two hospital-based branches on
campus- serve faculty, researchers, students, clinicians, nurses,
patients, and staff.
Successful candidates will have relevant experience in technical
services as well as supervisory experience. The successful candidate
will have the ability to acquire skills and knowledge as needed to
perform the job responsibilities in a changing environment.
This professional staff position reports to the Assistant Director and
supervises 6 full-time plus 2 part-time staff.
Major Responsibilities:
* Provide support and day-to-day decision-making for technical services
* Supervise technical services staff. (7 FTE)
* Assist in developing and implementing short-term and long-term
operational
goals and objectives for technical services.
* Assist in the transition -in technical services- from a print to a
predominantly electronic resource acquisition strategy.
* Coordinate the implementation of systems and workflow changes in
technical
services.
* Monitor trends and developments in managing document delivery and manage
reciprocal borrowing agreements in interlibrary loan.
* Serve as College consultant on copyright issues relating to teaching,
publishing, & electronic resources. Chair library copyright committee.
* Other duties as assigned.
Required:
* 2-3 years of experience in a library work environment.
* Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA accredited program.
* Supervisory experience and strong management skills.
* Effective organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
* Ability to work in a team environment.
* Experience in some key technical services areas, e.g. serials (print
& electronic), interlibrary loan, or cataloging.
* Hands-on experience in the utilization of current technology for
technical services processing.
* Familiarity with MARC formats, OCLC, and an integrated library system.
* Experience with electronic journals and publisher/vendor relations.
* Ability to analyze problems and solve/help solve them in a timely
manner.
* Knowledge of a database program: creating tables, queries, and reports.
* Ability to implement -or help implement- software solutions for
technical
services.
Preferred:
* Familiarity with technical services modules in the Innovative
Interfaces integrated library system.
* Practical experience with generating reports from data extracted
from multiple sources.
* Familiarity with common licensing issues for electronic resources.
* Experience with ILL software. (Ariel, Clio, or similar)
* Experience troubleshooting electronic journal problems.
* Experience working in an academic medical library.
* High 'comfort level' with commonly used business software applications.

This position is based in the Todd Wehr Library of the Medical College
of Wisconsin Libraries. The Medical College of Wisconsin (www.mcw.edu)
