Central Washington University seeks an innovative leader who possesses
a vision for the modern university library that unites the traditional
roles of the academic library with the increasing reliance on
electronic information technologies. The primary responsibility of the
dean of libraries is to provide leadership in all areas of library
administration including policy and program development, strategic and
long-range planning, fiscal management, personnel supervision,
integration of emerging technologies and development of collaborative
relationships.

Responsibilities:

      Provide leadership for the faculty and staff of the library.
      Develop policies and programs for the achievement of library
      goals and objectives.
      Establish and implement strategic and long-range plans for the
      development of library services.
      Oversee the library's budget.
      Supervise the operation of library services on campus and at off-
      campus university centers.
      Advocate the fiscal and personnel needs of the library.
      Coordinate the integration of emerging library and information
      technologies.
      Hire, supervise, conduct evaluations of, and uphold standards of
      performance for library personnel.
      Maintain ongoing involvement with appropriate professional bodies
      and consortia.

Required Qualifications:

      ALA accredited MLS or MLIS degree.
      At least five years of current managerial and senior level
      administrative experience in an academic, public, or special
      library setting, including strategic planning, budget,
      supervisory, and personnel matters.
      A record of professional and scholarly activity sufficient for
      appointment at the rank of full professor of librarianship.
      Effective oral and written communication skills.
      Experience promoting collaboration with affiliated groups and
      organizations.

Preferred Qualifications:

      Advanced degree beyond the MLS.

Salary: Competitive and commensurate with experience

Screening Date: Screening will begin on June 2, 2003, and will
continue until the position is filled.
