The University of Iowa Libraries stores a monthly report from each vendor
that provides usage data. If the vendor has an online statistics module
that allows us to generate reports dynamically, we go to their site monthly
to generate a static report for the previous month which we then store
locally. (We may use their statistics module for other ad hoc reports, but
we keep a static report for each month to ensure that we have local control
over archival usage data.) We do not attempt to parse vendor-supplied
data. We do, however, attempt to pull out a value each month for "number
of searches" and "number of articles [or books] viewed" in order to
approximate cross-vendor comparison of apples-to-apples. In compliance
with our user privacy policy, we do not keep any reports that include IP
addresses or other potentially identifying patron information.
