DIRECTOR OF LIBRARY SERVICES
Eastern Connecticut State University invites applications and
nominations in its search for an exemplary Director of Library
Services to provide leadership to the University's library services
and programs.
Under the direction of the Vice President for Academic Affairs or
designee and in cooperation with the Chief Information Officer for
technical functions, the Director is responsible for administering an
efficient and effective modern library services involving the
coordination, supervision, and direction of all aspects of library
operation including the following:
* Recommends policies and procedures to keep pace with
changing developments in the field;
* Assists management and relevant faculty committees in the
planning, design, implementation and evaluation of
development and change in the academic curriculum;
* Assumes a major role in the selection, development,
supervision, and evaluation of personnel;
* Plans, implements, and evaluates all programs and services
held within or by the library; Engages in long- and short-range
planning and sound management of library resources; Develops and
administers the library
budget and facilitates the process of securing state
appropriations and other sources of funding;
* Works with librarians, faculty and administration to provide
the most appropriate collection of materials possible;
* Works with librarians and instructional faculty to provide
appropriate library instruction and programs within the academic
mission of the University;
* Introduces, directs, and evaluates the adoption of
technological advances, especially computer applications to primary
library functions such as acquisitions, cataloging, serials, and
circulation control;
* Develops and administers a reference service for print and
non-print materials, including access to databases;
* Develops and administers networks linking the University to
regional and statewide resources which support the multiple roles
of the University;
* Prepares and completes annual and other reports as needed;
* Performs other duties and responsibilities related to those
enumerated above which do not alter the basic level of
responsibility of the position.

approximately 5,000 students and located in historic Windham County,
in the heart of eastern Connecticut.
The J. Eugene Smith Library (<http://library.easternct.edu/>) is a
state-of-the-art, award-winning library of 127,000 square feet,
with over 250,000 volumes of print and electronic books, 120
databases, and over 900 seats.
Qualifications: ALA-accredited MLS; Doctorate preferred; six
years of administrative experience in an academic library setting
with experience in personnel supervision, staff development and
evaluation, team building, strategic planning and budgeting,
strong oral and written communication skills; and a commitment to
service excellence.
Salary Range: $70,928 - $105,528
Screening will begin immediately and will continue until the
position is filled. The projected starting date for this
position is at the mutual agreement of the University and
successful candidate on or after August 8, 2003.
