Acquisitions/Collections Librarian
James Madison University Libraries invite enthusiastic,
self-motivated, and creative applicants for the position of
Acquisitions/Collections Librarian. Reporting to the Director of
Technical Services, this position will:
* Provide leadership for collection development and collection
assessment, acquisitions, and preservation;
* Coordinate collection evaluation and development
responsibilities in an environment where liaison librarians are
responsible for discipline-specific collection development;
* Manage and supervise acquisitions, including approval, book, and
audiovisual materials;
* Establish and maintain business relationships with library
materials vendors;
* Manage binding and preservation in a library well-known for its
active support of preservation;
* Allocate and monitor materials budget and prepare collection
management reports;
* Directly supervise 4 staff;
* Serve on the Technical Services Departmental management team;
* Serve as the Chair of the library’s Collection Development
Committee, which is responsible for oversight of the serials
collection, monitoring allocations and expenditures for designated
general collection development funds, and decision-making on major
purchases based on recommendations from the liaisons;
* Serve as a liaison to an academic department (duties include
collection development, instruction, and general reference
assistance).
Qualifications:
Accredited ALA/MLS; current awareness of acquisitions, scholarly
publishing, preservation, and collection development practices,
issues, and trends; excellent communication, interpersonal,
organizational, and time-management skills; excellent
problem-solving and analytical skills; strong negotiating skills;
ability to apply technology to a diverse range of library
applications; strong public service orientation; and ability to
work creatively and collaboratively in a rapidly changing
environment.
Compensation:
Faculty status. Salary commensurate with qualifications and
experience, minimum $37,000. Competitive compensation package
