I just received another flier for The Best Books for Academic Libraries
(College Library Edition this time, only 5 volumes) - I remember some
questions posted about this set months back... According to OCLC, 212
libraries have purchased the set so far (the full 10 volume set). For those
of you who have purchased the set - has this been a useful purchase? I
remember most libraries were concerned about the reliability of the
publisher Best Books, Inc. Any problems with them? Has anyone sprung for
the College Library Edition yet? This would be a great resource for us...
as long as it's a great resource! Any information or opinions will be
appreciated!
Thanks,
Beth Horn

We have purchased this set and have received three volumes so far. So far
I've been pleased with it and I've noticed many titles with very recent
publication dates as well as some older classic titles. The setup is by
call number arrangement, just as the previous editions of Books for College
Libraries although it seems to be much more extensive, and specific numbers
are used rather than ranges.
The introductory material is what you find in Books for College Libraries,
and the information on the subject specialists is quite extensive - much
more so than in BCL.
The set is hardbound with quality paper.

This title is reviewed in the current (March) issue of Choice.
I found it very useful - the review that is.
